Kathleen Joseph & Associates is a Gainesville psychotherapy practice led by Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor, Kathleen Joseph. Kathleen began her career serving Division I student athletes, where she saw how often high performers carried hidden trauma, neglect, and violence. That experience shaped her focus on trauma, identity, and relationships. As a Black woman with training at the intersection of race and sex, she centers the stories of Black and Brown women and other Women of Color. Kathleen integrates Internal Family Systems, Somatic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Written Exposure Therapy so clients can heal without being pushed to relive psychological hell.
Kathleen Joseph & Associates began with Kathleen's work counseling Division I student athletes at the University of Florida. Behind scholarships, championships, and public praise, she kept hearing about emotional neglect, family pressure, and violence. Those stories revealed how often high performers carry complex trauma in silence, and inspired a practice devoted to gentle, culturally grounded healing.
Many of our clients are high functioning Black and Brown women, carrying stories of parentification, emotional labor, and being the Strong Friend. We hold these realities with care, not judgment. Through therapy, groups, and Kathleen's work as a Qualified Supervisor, our practice helps shift how trauma is understood in families and communities.
We blend Somatic Experiencing principles, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and Written Exposure Therapy so you can process trauma in ways that honor your body, pace, and capacity. You are not pushed to repeatedly retell painful events. Instead, we move slowly and thoughtfully, with consistent attention to safety.
